Optimizing Patient Care without Compromising Quality
The practice of dentistry has changed dramatically over the past year. The current environment has forced us to rethink everything we do from scheduling and enhanced safety protocols to treatment delivery. Our patients have also changed. They are scrutinizing the dental office experience with expectations focused on the highest level of safety as well as the effective and efficient delivery of dental care.
Treating patients with the highest level of efficiency without sacrificing the quality and the esthetics of the dental care that I provide has become an ever more important issue for my practice. It has required me to examine, and re-examine, the materials and technology I use in terms of optimizing patient treatment time while offering the esthetic and long-lasting results that my patients demand.
A case in point has been treatment of Class I and Class II cavities in posterior teeth. Light-cured, tooth-colored direct composite restoratives provide an esthetic solution for our patients, but I found the traditional incremental layering technique very time-consuming with a multitude of technique sensitive steps, especially the photopolymerization of each incremental composite layer, which is critical to preventing post-operative sensitivity. I began searching for a posterior direct restorative system that increased treatment efficiency but was less technique sensitive. I turned to Ivoclar Vivadent’s Tetric EvoCeram, a highly esthetic bulk fill system that can be applied in increments of 4mm and cured in 10 seconds. It's a system I have trusted with confidence over the last 5 years.
When Ivoclar took the next step forward and improved on the efficiency of the Tetric EvoCeram technology with the introduction of the 3s PowerCure™ system, I immediately investigated the efficacy of the system. I found that this combination of restorative material and light-cure technology resolved all of the technique sensitive issues and further optimized treatment efficiency in a single system. It is now the direct posterior composite restorative system that I use every day.
The system’s coordinated light-cured bonding agent, flowable composite and bulk fill posterior composite not only reduce my treatment time by more than half but also do not compromise my promise to patients for quality, esthetic dentistry. What makes this system so unique is that the Adhese Universal bonding agent, Tetric PowerFlow flowable composite and Tetric PowerFill bulk composite up to increments of 4mm layers each cure in only 3 seconds using the BluePhase PowerCure curing light.
The high intensity LED technology of the Bluephase PowerCure curing light allows for 3,000 mW/Cm2 of light curing power to increase light penetration and decrease curing times, which minimizes the risk of error during curing. The predictability of the curing process is increased by the curing light’s Polyvision technology.
The curing light will automatically detect movement away from the occlusal surface during curing to alert the user to the potential of an inadequate cure of the restoration and will automatically extend curing time. For me, the 3s PowerCure direct composite restorative system has proven to be the ideal combination of innovative technology and materials that allows me to treat my patients safely, efficiently, and reliably, while providing my patients with the highest level of quality esthetic dental care.
