Why are we investing in this product portfolio?
Autumn 2015 will be exciting: Only a few months after the very eventful and productive IDS, Ivoclar Vivadent is preparing to launch another round of innovations. The introductory campaign is entitled “The World of Ceramics”.
What kind of products and techniques are involved? What are they all about? Find out more from someone who’s in the know! Armin Ospelt, Head of Global Marketing at Ivoclar Vivadent, reveals the exciting details.
Mr Ospelt, what kind of products will Ivoclar Vivadent be introducing in October?
Armin Ospelt: In October we will be presenting the “The World of Ceramics”, a special ceramics launch campaign. Six new products related to the field of ceramic restorations will be introduced. They have all been developed according to three basic principles: productivity, performance and esthetics. They are designed to help dental technicians to attain highly esthetic results quickly and easily.
This all sounds very exciting and promising. Could you tell us more about products?
Armin Ospelt: The first product we will be presenting is IPS Style, a new type of PFM ceramic. The specific structure of the ceramic, allows the material to be processed more quickly and easily metal-ceramic restorations to be produced easily and efficiently.compared with previous materials of its kind. IPS Style is characterized by low shrinkage and low susceptibility to cracking. Moreover, the ceramic can be fired at low temperatures. As a result, IPS Style allows esthetic
What is the secret behind this material?
Armin Ospelt: IPS Style contains a new crystal called oxyapatite. In fact, it’s the first PFM ceramic ever to contain oxyapatite. This crystal is responsible for imparting the material with enhanced processing properties compared with other PFM ceramics.
It seems to be quite a bold move to invest in a new PFM ceramic in 2015. Are PFM ceramics still in demand? Do they have a future?
Armin Ospelt: Yes, PFM ceramics continue to be in much demand. We do not expect this to change in the near future either. Of course, the trend towards metal-free restorations continues to grow with regional and national variations. At the same time, metal-ceramic restorations have gained a worldwide reputation for being state of the art. In the past few years, the number of metal-ceramic restorations placed around the world has remained stable. In other words, the number has not declined. As a consequence, we are convinced that PFM ceramics will continue to hold their own. Therefore, we believe that it is important for us to supply a product in this segment, which offers improved and simplified processing properties.
What about the other new products?
We have also added the new A14 block size to the IPS e.max CAD abutment block assortment. The new size reduces the processing time compared with the existing A16 blocks.
Please tell us more about the third innovation.
Armin Ospelt: The third part of our ceramics campaign involves the introduction of the new layering ceramics and materials named IPS e.max Ceram Power Dentin and Incisal. We developed these materials for IPS e.max Ceram together with leading experts. The products are physically compatible with lithium disilicate and zirconium oxide. Our aim was to develop materials that would deliver highly esthetic results, but would be easy to process.
What is in fourth place?
Armin Ospelt: We have developed a new translucent material for Zenostar, the zirconium oxide from Wieland Dental: The new MT 0 discs feature a medium translucency. The zero in the designation indicates that the discs are not pigmented. In addition, new colouring liquids will be available for the new discs. They will simplify the infiltration of zirconium oxide in accordance with the selected tooth shade. Zenostar MT covers a wide indication spectrum and fulfils highly esthetic requirements.
We are eager to hear about the last two innovations. What can you tell us about them?
Armin Ospelt: We have developed new glazing and characterization materials for all the mentioned materials and indications: that is, the IPS Ivocolor staining and glazing system. All the mentioned materials can be glazed, stained and characterized with this single system. Therefore, users can rely on one system, which offers a tremendous advantage in terms of cost effectiveness and efficiency.
In addition, we will be introducing the new Programat S1 1600 sinter furnace. It represents the next generation of the time-tested S1 model. The new furnace is also capable of sintering zirconium oxide at temperatures of up to 1600 degrees Celsius.
In total, six highly innovative products will be launched. Each product offers very specific benefits in terms of its processing properties, performance (use in conjunction with different materials) and esthetics. They are designed to simplify the work of dentists and dental technicians on a daily basis. What’s more, several of these innovations dovetail into each other and complement each other. Our aim is to heighten productivity, performance and esthetics. Now you know what our campaign called “The World of Ceramics” is all about.
